Caring For Your Riser and Recliner Chair
Like most things in life, a riser and recliner chair needs regular care to continue working at maximum efficiency. We suggest having your chair serviced annually to ensure the mechanics inside the chair remain in top working order. However there are a few checks that you can perform to get the most out of your chair.
Caring For Your Riser and Recliner Chair:
Staying Safe
Your safety when sat in a riser and recliner is the first point of call. This is to not only prevent injury, but to increase the lifespan of your chair.
- Always ensure that your riser and recliner is stored in the upright position when not in use.
- Do not leave objects under your recliner that may get stuck when you are returning the chair to its upright position.
- Try to always plug the chair directly into the mains instead of using an extension lead.
- Keep the chair’s transformer in an open area without anything resting on it to ensure that it is well ventilated and does not overheat.
Mechanical Working Order
If you believe that you have a mechanical problem with your riser and recliner chair, we strongly advise not attempting to fix it yourself. At RB Mobility services, we are always happy to help out, feel free to phone us on 01923 710055 if you believe you have a problem or visit our riser and recliner chair repair page.
- Do not lean on or apply excessive force to the back of your chair. This also applies to when you are sitting in the chair and have it in it’s fully extended position. The recliner may tip over, possibly breaking the chair or causing you damage.
- Do not use the footrest as an extra seat as this may damage the mechanism and cause the chair to not recline properly.
- Store your remote control away from the chair in an easy to access place to ensure it does not get stuck in a mechanical component, and so that you know where it is.
Fabric Care
Regular cleaning of your chair fabric ensures that it always remains as comfortable as when you first bought it.
- Regularly inspect your chair (or have someone inspect it for you) to check for stains or rips.
- Ask a family member or close friend if they can help you hoover your chair, this is to pick up dust that settles in the fabric.
- If you find severe stains or rips, try to contact a professional upholsterer or furniture cleaning service for help.
Electronic Safety
Although that all riser and recline chairs are built to an industry standard, a long product lifespan can cause some electrical components to wear out.
- Check your cables at least once a month to ensure that there are no damaged or exposed wires.
- Keep all wiring or electrical components away from sources of moisture.
- Only use riser and recline chairs indoors, they are not built to be used outside.
